This piece was based on the story of the daughter of King Midas, whose touch turned objects into gold. The Tragedy of Avarice was based on the imagined re-telling of the gilding of Midas’ daughter. As her hands took on the golden quality from her father’s touch, the all-female cast explored stillness and heaviness as their movement became more statue-like. Lighting emphasized the stillness with pools of light. When dancers broke out of this stillness, the world expanded and light wrapped around them.
