inspiration for this piece came from media images and coverage of the Syrian refugee crisis. This quote sparked the name for the piece and it also created a strong visual of the children being huddled together on a boat. To enhance this atmosphere, kinetic water-like light moved around the dancers as they traveled through the space, huddled on their boat. A single warm source of light cut into the space to support the boat as the kinetic water around the boat continued to swirl and move around the stage.
